Animal Farm Coffee Mug

George Orwell penned the words "Four legs good, two legs bad" in his award winning 1945 novel Animal Farm, which is a political reflection of the events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 told through a fictional tale based around farm animal characters.

In the story Old Major, the old boar on the Manor Farm, summons the animals on the farm together for a meeting, during which he refers to humans as "enemies" and teaches the animals a revolutionary song called "Beasts of England".

Interestingly the novel was released within a year of the formation of the United Nations; an organisation that was formed to promote international co-operation.
