I've been drawing a lot lately, and have created what I call The Empress Collection. It's a collection of pop art portraits of myself in varying scenarios, all in the wake of a break up.
I think we would describe this style as expressionism?
The collection of four drawings are available for purchase on postcards in the shop for just £5 including Free UK Postage. I've called it The Empress Collection because my favourite illustration shown here is The Empress from a tarot card deck, and the meaning of the card in short is;
"The Empress is the archetypal Earth Mother, the Anima, the Feminine Principle, Demeter, Freyja and the Goddess of Fertility. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love, creativity, fertility, art, harmony, luxury, beauty and grace." Source.
Myself as the Empress stands amid the vines of her lovers Passion flower (the irony), which he had planted the previous year and this year in his absence flourishes with flowers for the first time. She is accepting the demise of the relationship with the beauty and grace and uses art and creativity as a salve for the soul - the embodiment of everything that is The Empress tarot card.
Swirling around me are fireflies, which are a symbol of spirtual inspiration and hope within another tarot card called The Star. A guide a light, and a tarot card that is related to healing.
I believe I was most likely inspired by Frida Kahlo in the drawing of the heart flying free (to find a new love). On her thigh is the Three of Swords, another card within a tarot deck.
Dotted around some of the drawings are song lyrics and original poetry. The song lyrics can be found in Lady Gaga's exceptional track called "Sex Dreams"
