Mother's Day Gifts; Beyond The Pasta Necklace for Grownup Children

Now that you're not mummy's little soldier or princess any longer, what is best in terms of Mother's Day gifts? I mean, a pasta necklace that you made at school just isn't going to cut it any more is it?

When you grew up, did your relationship with your mother grow up alongside that? What I'm referencing is the horrible gift guides I've seen all over the Internet advertising quite frankly revolting gifts for Mother's Day - as though every mum is a 1950's cliche. She's the eternal 'mum', even though you left home ten years ago.

The worst are abominations such as saccharine sweet sentiments about motherly love engraved into cheap silver charms and the like. Sure your mum may smile over this sort of gift each year (so she MUST like it surely), and that's why you keep buying her that overly sentimental shit. You know what, if you're doing this, you're just giving her a grown up version of that ugly pasta necklace for sure.

Though those overly sentimental trifles often come from independent sellers, massive brands like Marks and Spencer aren't much better -  I just checked out their Mother's Day gifts 'for the home' range, and spotted a cake stand at the top of the page. A cake stand Marks and Spencer? Really? Get back in the kitchen mum, we might be grown up now but get in the kitchen and make my dinner because that's all your life amounts to.

If retailers aren't offering you kitchenware and ugly necklaces, they're suggesting that mum would love a spa day or an afternoon tea. It couldn't much more cliched, and it certainly doesn't really cater to mums who now have grown up children. It doesn't help you to find an awesome Mother's Day gift she'll love and be pleasantly surprised by.

You're a grown up now and mum isn't really a full time mum any more, she's probably got a whole range of new interests now that go beyond standing at the kitchen sink, or needing a spa break just so she can get away from her children for the day.

Perhaps your mum would enjoy something that better reflects her new life minus young children; a sexy pair of heels, an off road experience, tickets to a burlesque show, or some on-trend costume jewellery even.
