Dolly Parton Gifts and Resources

Dolly Parton is somewhat of a national treasure in my opinion. Dolly Parton is a country and western songbird who been delivering decades of wisdom through her words and lyrics, rolled up in one rather small but formidable package.

Though Dolly Parton's lyrics often dwell on those moments that love hurts, as in her epic song Jolene, the general message is of positivity and strength.

We've created a couple of illustrated Dolly Parton gifts for fans; for instance, this mug below is wonderfully cute and kitsch, and her cheery face is sure to 'vanish' your blues away of a Monday morning.

I'm a huge fan of Dolly Parton's 1974 track 'Jolene', as are many people, and was impressed to watch Miley Cyrus performing a quite frankly brilliant cover of it it recently, where Miley really proves that she can sing. Other musical artists covering the track include The White Stripes and Pentatonix, who performed the track with the great lady herself.

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can

Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green

Dolly Parton is quite the legend as has forged not only a four decade long career as a song writer and performer, but also achieved notable success as an actress and leisure industry entrepeneur too.

She's one impressive lady with huge assets, and I'm not just talking about her famous cleavage.

Parton is the most celebrated female country performer of all time, with 25 RIAA certified gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards under her belt and has seen 25 songs reach No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts.

While composing a staggering over 3,000 songs, she also penned 'I Will Always Love You' - a chart topper for Parton as well as providing a huge hit for Whitney Houston in 1992.  I for one did not realise it was originally written and performed by Dolly Parton.

Few of us will fail to recall Whitney's Houstons version - it spent 14 weeks at number one and fans have only recently stopped killing it at the Friday night Karaoke in our respective locals.

Dolly Parton's acting career is less celebrated, with many of her movies made for TV, however lets not forget enjoyable 1980s feminist romp Nine To Five, we all enjoyed that one and it was a geniunely good movie. Indeed such a success, that it's now a broadaway musical.

I actually put on one of her TV movies for a lark this weekend, specifically her sugar coated Christmas movie 'Unlikely Angel', in which Dolly plays a nanny / secret angel to a widower and his children. I didn't watch all of it, as I'm afraid after 30 minutes my enjoyment of Christmas kitsch was won over by my need for good cinema. You've got to click that 'Unlikely Angel' link by the way, if you haven't seen Dolly Parton in angel wings, you haven't lived.

Though she has an amazing music career, one of my favourite things about Dolly is 'Dollywood'.

Not content with being a music mogul Dolly decided one day that she should create her own theme park called Dollywood, nestled in the great smoky mountains it's been a resounding success since it's inception in 1986. Indeed it's Tennessee's most-visited tourist attraction.
